Writing Articles for Website Promotion - By: R Heavner

Writing and publishing articles to the internet is an excellent method of obtaining traffic to your website and gaining brand recognition. Often overlooked by many webmasters, article publishing represents a type of viral marketing strategy that more than pays for the time invested.

Articles are not meant to be advertising copy. Your objective is simply to pass on your knowledge of a subject to your reader. Choose a subject which ties into your website or product and which you know well. For example, if you own an automotive website, you may write an article on a particular modificaton or maintenance technique. If its a coin collecting site, perhaps an article on new government releases. While possibilities are endless for subject material. Its also important that you further research your subject. In other words, know it backwards. Its not enough to rehash common knowledge and present it as something new. Webmasters are looking for fresh material and fresh insights for their sites. The more original and up to date your material, the better. Avoid any temptation to "borrow a few paragraphs" from any published source without permission. Plagiarism will bring much more trouble than it could ever be worth.

Your next step is to actually write the article itself. Keep it as concise and to the point as possible. We have included on this website hundreds of articles written by various internet publishers offering tips and techniques for writing articles. Use them - thats why we've put them there. At the end of your article you will be adding a small bio section. This is where you write a small paragraph about yourself and include a link to your website. For example; "for more information visit our website at www.xxxx.com"

Now you are ready to submit your article to the many article banks on the internet. A search on any of the major search engines will usually bring up hundreds of these type sites. Be sure and read the terms carefully for each individual site, as they do tend to vary. When accepted, the article banks will then publish your article on their site, where it will be offered free for webmasters and ezine writers to use as content. This is where quality comes into play. The more thoroughly your work is researched and informative, the more your articles will find there way into websites.

So what are you getting for all this hard work? Each webmaster who publishes your work is giving you a one way link back to your website, which is extremely valuable to search engine positioning. In addition, you will get targeted website traffic from those reading your article and wanting more information. You can do the math... if your article is picked up by just 40 or 50 websites and another couple ezines, it could easily be in front of thousands of readers that you could never reach otherwise.

Sound too easy? Its not. Like anything else worthwhile, it does take a bit of work and research. The hardest part by far for most folks is actually sitting down and putting their thoughts on paper.

One small word of caution. There are more than a few websites out there that would have your think that this is some gateway to fast riches. Its not. It will take time and effort to start seeing significant results. But they will come, and as your reputation as a respectable author grows, the effort put in will more than pay for itself.
